In Today’s video blog I have a chat with Yunus Arikan, an ICLEI – (Local Governments for Sustainability) leader for the multilevel proactive Climate Actions – LGMA.
Yunus has over the years influenced the COP process to strengthen cross-border cooperation between local, regional, and national networks. The realization that the current COP process does not lead to a realization of the Paris Agreement’s goals is increasingly evident and much more is required in the form of political leadership in governance, capacity building, and financial investments. When I write about governance, for me it is often the question of innovative thinking within the responsibility of the political sector. We have a large number of local and global networks, Climat lab, and action groups that work across borders between different actors. But an important dimension is missing – the demand for renewal in political thinking – In order to accelerate climate policy, political leadership is required in policy and capacity building. There are of course good examples where the discussion has reached the leadership of the political parties and their organizations. But it is far from enough to reach the important climate and sustainability goals that are within what we find today in the Paris Agreement, SDG, and ESG areas. Be inspired by the Transformers video blog and other programs where I first talked to leaders driving urban transformation. Welcome to the conversations.
